Certificates and Ribbons

Certificates/ribbons will be awarded to students who meet all requirements in their first attempt. Please refer to the requirements specified for each of the following:

Teaching Certificate (Advanced Teaching)

To qualify for a Teaching Certificate, students must:

1. Complete all “A” emphasis classes.

2. Have a cumulative grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better in all of the classes listed below:

PE 136 Golf Fundamentals (AB) 1st Semester
PE 137A Short Game 1 (AB) 1st Semester
PE 137B Short Game 2 (AB) 2nd Semester
MK 126 Club Fitting (AB) 2nd Semester
PE 240 Methods of Teaching (A) 3rd Semester

3. Have a grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better in the class listed below:

PE 242 Advanced Teaching (E) 4th Semester

4. Have the following handicap index by graduation:

Men USGA index of 8.0 or below
Women USGA index of 15.0 or below

Club Repair Certificate (Club Repair Operations)

To qualify for a Club Repair Certificate, students must:

1. Have a grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better in the classes listed below:

MK 126 Club Fitting (AB) 2nd Semester
GM 255 Club Repair (A) 3rd Semester

2. Complete club repair project

3. Complete term paper

4. Score 80% or higher on Golf Academy Comprehensive Club Repair exam in 4th Semester

Tournament Operations Certificate (Tournament Operations)

To qualify for a Tournament Operations Certificate, students must:

1. Have a cumulative grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better in all of the classes listed below:

PE 101 Rules of Golf (AB) 1st Semester
PE 139 Tournament Planning (AB) 2nd Semester
PE 246 Tournament Administration (AB) 3rd Semester
PE 244 Advanced Rules (E) 4th Semester

Player's Credential Ribbon

To qualify for a Players Credential Ribbon, students must:

1. Pass PGA, LPGA, or Golf Academy Playing Ability Test. Golf Academy of America schedules its P.A.T. (36 holes) one time each semester.

2. Have a cumulative grade of “B” (3.0 GPA) or better in all of the classes listed below:

PE 145 a/b Tournament Golf (AB) 1st/2nd Semester
PE 245 a/b Tournament Golf (AB) 3rd/4th Semester
PE 249 Golf Performance Enhancement (E) 4th Semester

Students who qualify for a "Player's Credential" will receive the award upon graduation. This designation will be by a ribbon placed on the degree certificate. The Player's Credential will serve to verify that the graduate has achieved a level of playing competency equal to the demands of the PGA Playing Ability Test for Teaching Professionals.
